Day of National Remembrance For the Heroic Sacrifice of SAF 44

Date: January 25, 2023, at about 8:30 AM

"When the will defies fear, when duty throws the gauntlet down to fate, when honor scorns to compromise with death - that is heroism."

-Robert Green Ingersoll [1]

Day of National Remembrance For the Heroic Sacrifice of SAF 44. Observed by Olongapo City Police Office, led by PCOL CARLITO UDANI GRIJALDO, City Director with SAF troopers.

The Gallant SAF 44 Commemoration is an event that is held annually in memory of the 44 members of the Philippine National Police's Special Action Force (SAF) who died in the Mamasapano in January 2015. This event is held to celebrate the bravery and sacrifice of the police officers who have passed away and to pay tribute to those officers' families and loved ones.

The memorial will often consist of several rituals and events, such as a wreath-laying ceremony, a moment of quiet, speeches delivered by government officials and other prominent community members, and a march of honor performed by the local police force. In most cases, family members of the officers who have died in the line of duty are also present and honored at the ceremony.

The massacre in Mamasapano was received with considerable outrage and sadness, and a wide variety of groups widely criticized it both in the Philippines and worldwide. An inquiry into the occurrence was carried out, and as a result, several government officials and members of the police force came under fire for how they managed the operation.

The Gallant SAF 44 Commemoration is an important event that serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by people in the police force and the risks they endure while doing their jobs. It is also a time for the nation to join together and show its support for the families of the deceased and respect the memories of the heroic police officers who lost their lives in service to the country. This is a time when the nation should come together.

As I make my way into the gathering and the ceremony, I can still sense the genuineness, respect, and glory emanating from every man in uniform. The selflessness of the men who served in the Gallant 44 will never be forgotten, and it will continue to give us the strength and motivation we need to do our country. They sacrificed their lives so that the people of the Philippines, particularly the community, might continue to live without the constant threat of being slain by Marwan's terror.
